The Best Gas Chainsaw In The Market Today
A gas chainsaw is one of the best investments you can make today. As a woodworker, a chainsaw comes in handy not only if you have to cut logs, but also if you need to cut down materials for your projects.
But what are the best gas chainsaws?
Let me help you with this one. I understand if you have hesitations buying one. After all, you cannot just return the product if you do not like it.
I have been a woodworker for decades—I have bought and borrowed different types of gas chainsaws, and I believe my experience is extensive enough to give you advice about this purchase, especially if you are buying from Amazon.
Today, I will talk about six of the gas chainsaws that your money can buy. But first, why even buy a chainsaw?
Benefits of a Gas Chainsaw
So, why do you need to buy a chainsaw? And specifically, why buy one that needs gas?
The 6 Best Gas Chainsaws
Now, let us take a look at my top picks for the six best gas chainsaws.
Yes, Craftsman is back, and it has been producing quality tools since Sears sold it to Black & Decker in 2017. What I like about this chainsaw is that it has a 42cc engine—it can produce half the power of a small motorcycle.
The premium 16-inch bar allows you to control the kickback. The chains that come with it is also so powerful that it can easily cut to tough wood.
The first time I used it, I immediately noticed how light it was. It is also easy to handle, and I can say for certain that the 3-point anti-vibration feature works. I did not find myself fatigued after using it.
It also has an adjustable auto-chain oiler. As the chain runs, the machine oils the chain, thus preventing friction. It stays lubricated as you work. You can also choose to increase and decrease the flow of the oil according to your preference.
Overall, I can say that this is great for yard work and for slicing wood. You can also use it for wood sculpture projects.
Remington Gas Powered Chainsaw
If you are looking for a chainsaw with a reliable engine, you can use this one. Like the previous chainsaw, it has a 16-inch bar to keep you safe. The engine has a 2-cycle power, so it is not best of heavy-duty use. I would recommend this for medium to large branches, but not for a full-on tree-felling activity.
With the 5-point anti-vibration system, I can attest that this one has a better anti-fatigue system than the Craftsman one.
One thing I noticed is that despite the “easy start,” it can be a tug to get this motor started. But nevertheless, it is easy to pull and rev up compared to other chainsaws. By the way, the cold start feature is multi-step. Please read the manual before gearing up the motor.
The package includes a carry case, which is great, so you no longer have to buy a bag separately. The saw also has an auto-oiler. What it does is it oils the chains as it is working, keeping it in tip-top condition while you are cutting.
Husqvarna 120 Mark II 14 inches
Now, this is a chainsaw that is great for small projects like cutting small logs and branches. I would not recommend this for cutting down trees as it is only 14 inches.
While there are some people who say that it is difficult to start, I did not have that problem. What I like about this is that it is lightweight—even my 70-year old father could operate it.
I am including this in my list because it is a great casual work chainsaw. It has a safety break, which means it significantly reduces the risk of operating the machine.
Husqvarna is one of the best tool manufacturers out there, and this one did not disappoint. Now, do not expect too much power from this saw.
This one does not have an auto-oiling system. You have to read the manual and see how to oil the chain. This should be easy, but you may find it inconveniencing to stop time and time again to oil the chain.
ORCISH Gas Chainsaw
This is not a popular brand, but it does its job. If we compare this with the previous chainsaws, this certainly has more power than the others because the engine is 52cc. If you think about it, basic scooters have this same kind of engine, so you can just imagine how much power this chainsaw has.
I would recommend this chainsaw for all-around use. It is highly efficient, and I can say that this is much better than buying electric chainsaws at the same price range. No need for power cords, much less charging batteries.
This chainsaw comes with a chain brake, making it safe to use. I love to use it for pruning trees and cutting down the limbs of fallen trees. I once helped a buddy of mine cleaning up after a storm, and this one did a fantastic job.
The thing with this chainsaw is that it needs priming or engine braking. To do this, just use 25:1 gasoline and oil for the first 20 hours. After that, you can now use 40:1 ration between gasoline and oil.
ECHO 20 Inches
My only gripe about this chainsaw is that it has no warranty if bought on Amazon. But other than that, it is highly recommended.
When I first tried it, I was amazed by its cutting speed. I tried in on a 10-inch oak, and it cut like butter. I also love the safety features. It has a chain brake helps you control the kickback. Starting it is also easy—you do not need to spend 30 minutes trying to get it started.
Although Tanaka is a relatively unknown brand, I managed to try this one time from a friend. It is easy to start, and the chainsaw has a purge primer bulb. What this does is it warms up the engine. I also like that it has an automatic oiler to keep the chain run smoothly with no friction.
Take note that the top handle is merely 12 inches, not 14. This tool is great for tasks that are not heavy-duty. I specifically liked how it performed when we had to cut some limbs from fallen trees. For consumers, the chainsaw comes with a seven-year warranty, which is more than what I can really ask for.
However, the warranty is only two years if you will use it commercially. And if you rent it out, the warranty is only one year.
How to care for chainsaw
After buying your chainsaw, you need to take care of it. It is a machine that needs oiling, and so much more.
Here are some tips about how you can take proper care for your chainsa
Before buying a chainsaw, I strongly recommend that you ask yourself what you will use it for. There are several types of chainsaws, but an 18-inch chainsaw is the most versatile.
Only loggers need bigger ones. If you want to know more about other saws, you can read my review about the best 18-inch chainsaws.
Do not wait for demos of products in your neighborhood anymore. What you can do is to check out the products I recommend in Amazon, and then read the reviews of the people who bought them.
Although I have used all of these myself, it is still best that you get a second opinion.
